Improving Care in Elderly Neurosurgery Initiative (ICENI) was a collaboration initiated by Dr Daniel Stubbs and Dr Benjamin Davies, Anaesthetic and Neurosurgical Trainees from Cambridge Respectively.  The initiative aimed to take a comprehensive system engineering approach to understanding the challenges of CSDH care, then developing, testing, and implementing improvements.  The duo has been and continues to be well supported by a diverse array of professionals from across the UK.  The initiative remains on-going, and further information can be found at https://www.improving-care.in/

One of the key findings of ICENI, identified through patient and professional interviews, workshops and surveys, alongside and evaluation of hospital complaints records, was the difficulties faced by patients and their relatives in accessing information about the condition.  This, in particular, as the initial diagnosis was often made by professional with limited experience of CSDH, based in a different hospital to where treatment would occur, and there were no specific resources online.  The aim of this website was therefore to help shared decision making.
